Plastic Surgery and Camouflage Cosmetics

Every person pursuing plastic surgery suffers from some provisional cosmetic side effects like bruising, swelling or evident incision marks. It will take about weeks, days and even months to vanish and then one can be grateful for the outcomes of the plastic surgery. Now, there are larger number of make up products and procedures which can be used by women, men and teenagers to hide the provisional side effects of plastic surgery and assist them to face the world with confidence and no difficulty.

When to Start

The patient should consult the plastic surgeon before begin using camouflage cosmetics. Some of the people apply camouflage cosmetics or make up to disguise swelling or cover bruising in a day or two after the plastic surgery. If any patient wants to cover the incision lines, then the patient has to wait for some days till the removal of the stitches and the closing of the incision. After performing the rhinoplasty or nose surgery, one can use camouflage cosmetics as early as the cast is eliminated.

What to Look for

One can use unique camouflage products, commercial camouflage products and standard make up suggested by the plastic surgeon which are easily available in most of the big department stores. The patient should apply those products which are free of perfume and hypoallergenic. There are 3 main methods to camouflage cosmetics and they are:-

  • Color correcting – defusing color in yellowish or reddened skin
  • Concealing – hiding bruises and incision lines.
  • Contouring – generating the delusion of darkness and highlights and covering swelling.

Camouflage Cosmetic Methods

Concealing

Concealers are more solid and wider as compared to standard foundation make up. It can hide the healed scars, incision lines and bruises on the body or face. One should not apply concealer on the delicate and thin skin around the eyes as it is wide and gather in the creases. One should use a normal color corrector, fluid foundation or eye make up.

Color Correcting

Color corrector is generally used by the patients after pursuing plastic surgeries such as dermabrasion and chemical peel and is used to cover the redness or yellowish shade of a bruise. These are less solid as compared to concealers and are usually used under the foundation.

Contouring

This can be used anywhere on the face but mainly used to cover the swelling that is associated with facial implants and nose surgery. One can require two types of products for contouring such as a contour shadow and a highlighter.

Removing Camouflage Cosmetics

These cosmetics are wider and more adherent as compared to everyday make up. So, every person should remove it every night before sleeping. One should use a purifying cream to eliminate the entire make up and then apply alcohol free and gentle toner using a cotton ball to eliminate the cleanser residue. One can also apply a moisturizer on the type of the skin.
