How Plastic Surgery is performed on the Cancer Patients?
Breast Cancer
The eventual objective of breast reconstruction is to construct breast equilibrium by developing a breast that should appear similar like an opposite breast. This can be done through various methods such as:-
Transverse Rectus Abdominus Muscle Flap
The surgeon takes this flap from the abdomen which includes fat, skin and a small part of muscle tissue and is channeled between the ribs and skin to the breast area. This procedure enables the flap to hold a stable supply of blood from the region. Then that tissue is cut and stitched into the desired position to produce a new breast mass and the abdomen is allowed to close.
Implant with Tissue Expander
During mastectomy, the surgeon inserts an expander and the process of development begins after the cuts have been repaired. Saline is inserted into the expander to make it wide to hold the implant.
Other methods include Free Flaps and Latissimus Dorsi Flap. When the symmetry is not achieved, the opposite breast needs a breast lift and breast reduction. Other methods include tattooing of the nipple and nipple reconstruction.
Skin Cancer
Skin cancer depends on the location and severity of the cancer and the options of reconstruction of skin cancer vary from easy closing to flaps. Various methods include:-
- Excise with skin graft
- Excise and closure
- Local flap
