Smoking Plastic Surgery
Smoking is considered to cause cancer and heart disease but most of the patients are not aware that smoking can cause harm in the plastic surgery operations performed successfully. A new test has been developed by the scientists of the University of Birmingham in England which evaluates about those people who continue smoking even after undergoing plastic surgery. Smoking affects the healing ability of the body after plastic surgery. Smoking one cigarette decreases the flow of blood to a wound which creates a lot of problem in healing process.
People smoking cigarettes or cigars suffer from various complications during and after undergoing plastic surgery. To determine whether the patients are smoking or not, can be evaluated by performing the urine test conducted by the surgical team. The section of their urine was verified for nicotine chemicals using the test known as smokescreen. The urine turning pink determines that the patient is the smoker and if the color becomes dark, then it shows that the patient smokes heavily.
Dangers of Smoking in Plastic Surgery
Most of the people are aware of the dangers or risks of smoking as it leads to oral cancer, lung cancer and a bladder cancer. So, one can see the demoralizing effects in the skin and physical condition of the skin after pursuing plastic surgery. Smoking cigarettes includes destructive elements such as carbon monoxide and nicotine. Vasospasm of the vessels is caused by nicotine.
This term means a reduction of the vessel causing control and narrowing of the flow of blood. Carbon monoxide binds the oxygen and does not enable it to be released in the breathing areas like skin. Therefore, the skin of the smoker is more tough and wrinkled as compared to the non-smokers and their skin damages more quickly as the oxygen is dispossessed by the skin through the fastening effect of carbon monoxide and the vasospastic effect of nicotine.
As a result of successful plastic surgery, it reduces the energetic and gravitational forces of age, the skin will divert from a good plastic consequence owing to the fact that the skin is in deprived form largely aggravated in most of the patients by smoking. There are also some more hazardous effects of smoking during or after surgery.
So, it is advised that face lifts, abdominoplasty and breast reductions should not be performed on the smokers. There are only some specific plastic surgeons who perform these plastic surgery procedures on the smokers but these procedures involve too much dangers or risks.
